In her music, Joni draws inspiration from jazz, rock, pop, and folk — and she combines them all with her unique lyrics and vocals.

In recent years, Joni has mostly avoided the spotlight, and she recently shed some light on the strange disease she’s been battling in her time out of the public eye.

In David Yaffe’s new book, out this month, she revealed that she has suffered from Morgellons disease for years, but recently, the mysterious illness has made her life particularly difficult.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Morgellons disease is an uncommon, unexplained skin disorder characterized by sores, crawling sensations on and under the skin, and fiber-like filaments emerging from the sores. It’s not certain what these strings are.”

Morgellons is not only a mysterious illness, it’s also highly controversial in the medical world.

Much more research needs to be done on Morgellons disease before any conclusions can be properly made about the condition.

In the forthcoming book, the 73-year-old singer-songwriter reportedly explains that the disease feels like it’s “eating her alive.”

The crawling sensations and resulting sores are barely understood and very difficult to treat effectively.
